Grammy Awards 2010 nominations list

Grammy Awards 2010 nominations list is available by clicking here. A MS Word file of the list of nominees for the 2010 Grammys was 72 pages long. It's a lot easier to sort through the list using the menu on the official Grammy Web site, anyways.

What's in store for Sunday's show? Other than the anticipation of seeing what everyone will be wearing on the red carpet, there's a lot of anticipation of who will win each

2010 is a great year for Beyonce and Taylor Swift. The two first went head-to-head when Kanye West interrupted the announcement of Taylor Swift's VMA. Beyonce has a leg up on Swift with 10 nominations as opposed to the country/pop singer's 8. The true test is to see who will win which awards.

Trying to determine who is more deserving - the R&B sensation or America's pop/country princess - is somewhat of a tossup. The two are extremely talented, and comparing them is like comparing apples and oranges.

Other than the two music divas, other nominees include Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas, Justin Timberlake, and more. There's no way to list all the talented artists who will be present at the show without inadvertently forgetting to name one.

Lady Gaga is also a breakout artist that has gained a considerable amount of popularity over the last year. Her hit single "Poker Face" is up for "Record of the Year" and "Record of the Year" and will compete against "All the Single Ladies" and "You Belong with Me." I have no clue how the critics determine who wins the award, as all three of these songs are absolutely great.

Artists up for awards in the Pop category include Taylor Swift, Katy, and Pink. Pink's song "Sober" is up for "Best Female Pop Performance", and the throaty vocals and catchy lyrics are sure to make her a strong contender for this trophy.

World Series Trophy comes East

The Yankees have announced plans to bring the 2009 World Series championship trophy on a six-day tour of Tokyo, Beijing and Hong Kong, beginning on Sunday.

The club's delegation will include team president Randy Levine, general manager Brian Cashman and assistant general manager Jean Afterman.

Also accompanying the trophy will be senior vice president of corporate sales and sponsorships Michael Tusiani, director of Pacific Rim operations George Rose, executive director of stadium event security Todd Letcher and media relations manager Michael Margolis.

The trophy will begin its journey with a scheduled arrival at Tokyo's Narita Airport on Sunday, Jan. 31, at 5 p.m. Japan Standard Time (JST -- 14 hours ahead of U.S. ET), marking the first time the Yankees have brought their World Series trophy to Asia.

Royal Trophy will Continue to Grow in Stature

Colin Montgomerie has predicted that the Royal Trophy will continue to grow in stature and popularity.

The Scot admitted after seeing his European side edge Asia 8 1/2-7 1/2 to regain the trophy on Sunday that he was impressed after his first appearance in the competition.

The European playing captain, who will also lead the Ryder Cup team against the US in October, said the Royal Trophy will play a vital part in Asia's growth as a major player on the world stage.

He said the vision of the event's founder, Seve Ballesteros, who predicted it would prove as beneficial for Asian golf as the Ryder Cup was for Europe, was fast becoming a reality.

He explained: "This is my first taste of the Royal Trophy and I have been very, very impressed with everything.

"I think the Royal Trophy can only expand, as can golf in Asia. This is the area of the world that is expanding in so many areas of life, not only in sport.

"The way golf is growing here in Asia shows Seve's vision in founding this event was absolutely right. He saw this as the area that would expand most, and how true that is."

Monty said he and his team were delighted with the welcome they received in Thailand, and by the standard of the competition they were taking part in. read more...

Sharapova works to make merit

Being the world's tennis No 1 and having a Grand Slam trophy is not new for cover girl Maria Sharapova - she has won three trophies - but making merit in the Thai way has been a totally new experience for the young Russian.

A day after her friendly match with Venus Williams on Saturday, the former world No 1 learned the traditional rite of giving alms to monks on the beach in Hua Hin - a good deed which should be blessing for her in the 2010 season.

Sharapova, who adjusted well to the heat here, which is similar to the atmosphere back home in Florida, was overwhelmed after the merit-making.
