Social Network Steals 4 Trophies

The Social Network, the story Facebook’s birth, continued its winning streak by bagging four trophies including the best picture and best director at the 68th annual Golden Globe Awards. David Fincher was named the best director, Aron Sorkin for the best screenplay while Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross piped Indian musician A.R. Rahman in the best score category. A pregnant Natalie Portman, dressed in a pink gown, accepted the best dramatic actress trophy for her performance of a troubled ballerina in Black Swan. Portman thanked director Darren Aronofsky for the movie and “such a beautiful gift with this role.” She met her fiancé, Benjamin Millepied while working on the movie. British actor Colin Firth, who had lost last year for Single Man, took home the trophy for the best actor for his performance of a stuttering King George VI in royal drama The King’s Speech. The 50-year-old star said it could be difficult going through mid-life “with your dignity and judgment intact.” Holding his trophy in his hands, Firth said: “Right now this is all that stands between me and a Harley Davidson.” The Kids Are All Right won the top comedy picture and its star Annette Bening picked up her second Golden Globe trophy in the best actress in a comedy or musical for her performance as a lesbian mother in the movie. “I’m very proud to be part of this very special film about two women who are very deeply in love and trying to keep their family together,” Bening said thanking her co-star and fellow nominee Julianne Moore for her “class act’’. Supporting honours went to The Fighter with Christian Bale winning the best supporting actor honour for his performance as former fighter and addict Dickie Eklund. Bale thanked his wife and co-star Mark Wahlberg, saying, “You can only give a loud performance like the one I gave when you have a quiet anchor.” Actress Melissa Leo, who won the best supporting trophy for her portrayal of a mom to Bale’s character in The Fighter, admitted that initially she thought she was too young to play the mother. “I really don’t know if I can play Mark and Christian’s mother. I’m a little young. Mark Wahlberg, you are a prince. You are amazing. It was beautiful to play your mother.”
